What cotton weight does your packaging need?
Cotton weight determines your packaging's strength, durability, and brand perception. We explain how to choose the right one for your packaging.
Choosing a cotton bag isn't just an aesthetic decision.
Weight directly affects the strength, durability, brand perception, and real-world use your packaging will get.
At Yute Natural we work with different weights because not every brand needs the same thing. We explain how to choose the right one for your project.
Why does cotton weight matter?
Weight (expressed in oz or g/m²) indicates the thickness of the fabric. It directly affects:
- Durability
- Strength
- Perceived quality
- Packaging cost
That's why more weight doesn't always mean a better choice.
Most common weights for cotton bags
4.5 oz (≈ 132 g/m²) Light and affordable. Ideal for: trade shows, conferences, and one-off promotional activities.
6 oz (≈ 170 g/m²) The most balanced standard. Ideal for: retail, fashion, and frequent in-store deliveries.
8 oz (≈ 227 g/m²) Sturdier and more durable. Ideal for: gourmet products, hotels, and reusable gift bags.
10 oz (≈ 283 g/m²) High strength and premium quality. Ideal for: high-end brands, heavy products, and intensive use.
A key point to keep in mind
There's no "best" weight in absolute terms. There's the most suitable one for each use, industry, and brand goal.
Choosing with care is what turns a bag into a real communication tool, not just a carrier.
